Narrative Assessment - Mathematics - 18 May 2015

Learner: Edward            Learning Coach: Miriam Kamsteeg             Date: 18 May 2015
Learning Area: Mathematics - Numeracy
Learning Observed
Today in Mathematics we were looking at one to one counting to 13. I gave Edward a pile of animals and asked him to get 13 from the pile. He lined them all up then began counting. He counted correctly to 12, missed 13 and said 14. We then had turns rolling a 12 sided die and naming the numerals on the die. Edward was unable to name any of the numerals.
Evidence of learning

Edward is able to count to 12. I wonder if he practices counting in English at home?
Key Competencies/Vision Principles
Edward is developing his Capabilities in one to one counting. He is starting to learn to read numerals (Using Language, Symbols and Text). Edward is able to sequence numbers in his head to 12 (Thinking).
Next Learning Steps
  • Continue explicit teaching of the sequence of numbers to 13.
  • Continue to explicitly teach numeral recognition from 1- 13.
  • Share learning with home.
